Fairview Birks jewelry store held up by robbers with pepper spray

Montreal police are looking for two men in their 20s following a Birks jewelry heist on the West Island on Wednesday night.

It happened at a store in the Fairview Pointe-Claire shopping centre at about 8 p.m.

Const. Anie Lemieux of Montreal police said the suspects used pepper spray to get past the security guard.

"I walked out of the Michael Kors store upstairs looked down and there were mall security guards going crazy, putting tape [up] and panicking," said Nick Vonapartis, who was shopping at Fairview at the time of the robbery.

That Birks location was robbed in November 2014 and in 2010 by thieves using pepper spray. It has been the target of other robbers in the past as well.

Lemieux said it's possible Wednesday's robbery is connected to the one in November, but that investigators have not yet drawn any conclusions.

Lemieux said one of the suspects was wearing a black hoodie and grey coat, while the other wore a yellow hoodie.

Police are asking anyone with information to call the Info-Crime line at 514-393-1133.
