Fire crews battle large blaze at Ajax auto-wrecker's yard
Ajax fire crews battled a large fire at an auto-wrecker's yard early Saturday.
The fire took place at Ajax Auto Wreckers at Dowty Road, near Bayly Street West and Westney Road Street, and the road was closed briefly due to the fire.
It is not known if anyone was injured.
Poor air quality because of the blaze prompted the Durham Regional Police Service to recommend residents to stay indoors and others to avoid the area.
Ajax Fire and Emergency Services was able to get the fire contained quickly, and police soon after said Dowty Road was reopened.
Police said smoke is no longer a concern in the area.
