Forest fire burning near Behchoko, N.W.T.

N.W.T. fire officials are monitoring a forest fire near Behchoko.

The fire is south of Edzo, a community within the municipality of Behchoko, near Mosquito Lake. It is burning about three kilometres from Highway 3.

Officials say the road remains open. The forest management division is reporting the fire is about 300 hectares in size and they do not yet know how it was caused.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources says many areas are dry and windy and the risk of fire is high or extreme in much of the territory.

The municipalities of Yellowknife, Fort Smith and Hay River have all declared fire bans.
