RCMP allege Elizabeth Sherwood stole almost $23,000.

A 47-year-old Kelowna woman is facing charges of theft, fraud and uttering forged documents after nearly $23,000 disappeared from a high school fundraising account.

Kelowna RCMP allege Elizabeth Sherwood took the money from the Okanagan Mission Secondary School Band Parents' Program fundraising account, maintained by parents outside the school to support the band program.

Sherwood had been treasurer of the fund, but irregular activity in the account prompted parents to contact police last February.

Investigators found 37 cheques had been forged between May 2010 and August 2011 and $22,894.12 was missing.

Sherwood faces charges of theft over $5,000, uttering forged documents and fraud over $5,000.

She is scheduled to appear in court on May 12.
