Man knocked unconscious by punch in road rage incident

A man from Gatineau, Que., was knocked unconscious and suffered a "serious head injury" during a road rage incident on Sunday, police say.

The man and his spouse were driving north on Highway 105 in Chelsea, Que., north of Ottawa, on Sunday when another vehicle "quickly came up behind" them, MRC des Collines-de-l'Outaouais police said in a media release issued Monday.

The man pulled over onto the shoulder of the road in order to let the other vehicle pass, but the other driver also decided to stop.

"An argument followed and the 50-year-old man was punched in the face and fell unconscious to the ground," police said.

He was taken to hospital in Gatineau's Hull neighbourhood with a serious head injury in non-life-threatening condition.

The driver who punched the man fled the scene but police said Monday that they were able to identify him and planned to meet with him.

The investigation continues.
