Minimum amount up for accident police reports

P.E.I. drivers will soon have a higher minimum amount for reporting minor accidents.

Right now any accident with damages $1,000 or more must be reported to police.

Transportation minister Ron MacKinley has tabled new legislation, which would increase that to a $2,000 minimum.

"Basically what that means is somebody has a fender bumper on the side of the road or somebody has one in the parking lot, the damage got to be worth $2,000 now instead of $1,000 reported to authorities and basically it gets rid of red tape, saves people time."

The amendment to the Highway Traffic Act was tabled Tuesday in the legislature.
