Miramichi man strangled in Alberta

Police say a Miramichi, N.B., man killed in Alberta was strangled.

Police in Red Deer, Alta., are investigating the death of William McDonald, 40, as a homicide.

McDonald was found dead when police arrived at a home in a residential Red Deer neighbourhood early last Thursday morning.

Cst. Chris Kosack said a medical examiner in Calgary determined in an autopsy that McDonald had been strangled.

Martin Munro, 36, formerly of Miramichi, and Jolyn Ten Hove, 37, of Red Deer, appeared in court Monday.

They've been charged with second-degree murder. Munro and Hove have been remanded in custody until their next court date Feb. 1.

Police said Munro and the victim were friends in Miramichi. McDonald had only arrived in Red Deer after Christmas.
