Mississauga bus, SUV collide in Etobicoke injuring 11

Eleven people, including at least one who was severely injured, were taken to hospital Friday after a public transit bus and an SUV collided in Toronto's west end, according to paramedics.

Police said a Mississauga Transit bus and a Honda SUV collided just after 9 a.m. near the intersection of Bloor Street West and Islington Avenue, in the suburb of Etobicoke.

Mississauga Transit, which is responsible for public transit in the municipality immediately west of Toronto, reported the incident may have been a head-on collision, Toronto police said.

Toronto's ambulance service said one patient was rushed to a local trauma centre, and that three patients in total needed to be put on backboards to protect their spines.

Police said none of the injuries are currently considered life-threatening.
