More outlaw bikers stopped and charged
RCMP and Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officers have laid more charges against bikers who police say are involved in criminal activity.
RCMP Staff Sgt. Boyd Merrill said 50 bikers were stopped on the island on Friday — 36 in the area of Port aux Basques.
Merrill said six charges were laid in the area.
Meanwhile, two motorcycle club members wearing colours were also turned away from the George Street Festival in St. John's Thursday night after they refused to remove their patches.
In addition, two charges were laid in the Holyrood area over the past 24 hours "against two organized crime members travelling on motorcycles."
The RNC, RCMP crime suppression unit stopped 15 bikers on Thursday in Port aux Basques after they got off the Marine Atlantic ferry.
Merrill said 12 charges were laid against some of the bikers on Thursday. However, police will not say what charges were laid, only that they have "reasonable and probable grounds to believe they have committed offences."
On July 24, RCMP said members of outlaw motorcycle gang Bacchus and affiliated clubs from other parts of Canada were heading to central and eastern Newfoundland this week.
RCMP has also not disclosed when the accused bikers are expected to appear in court.
The motorcycle clubs involved in the run are involved in organized crime, police said.
They are often known as "one per-center" clubs, as they represent a tiny fraction of overall motorcycle users.
