Warm Toronto weather could set records

The record-setting temperature in Toronto on Sunday was just the beginning, with warm weather expected for the next couple of weeks and more records forecast to be broken.

"Seasonals for Toronto [are] around 3, 4 degrees for this time of year," said CBC meteorologist Johanna Wagstaffe. "We're going to be a good 10 to 15 degrees above seasonable every day."

On Sunday, the temperature recorded at the Pearson airport was 17.7 C, more than two degrees warmer than the record set in 1977.

It was warm throughout southern Ontario, with records also falling in Hamilton (15.4 C) and Ottawa (11.8 C).

The weather is so unusual that Environment Canada issued a special weather statement on Sunday describing how warm it will be.

Temperatures are forecast to hit between 12 and 17 degrees throughout the week.

Wagstaffe said the long-range forecast is similarly warm, at this point.
