Oceanic Experience Wellness` Christian Zrymiak takes float tank on road

A Saskatoon entrepreneur is packing up his buoyant business and taking it on the road for the summer.

Christian Zrymiak, owner of Oceanic Experience Wellness, a float tank business, is taking it to music festivals across western Canada in an old school bus.

"It's something that people want to do, especially in the festival culture," he said. "When I go to an event, a dancing event especially, people will say, 'I really what to float. If you had a tank here, I would do it.'"

The Float Bus is outfitted with an isolation tank — a dark, soundproof container filled with warm salt water that allows someone to float inside of it.

"The brine-laced solution is saltier than the Dead Sea, and anyone can float," he said.

Heading west

His first stop is the Motion Notion festival in Golden, B.C. Then he plans on heading to another event in B.C. and has applied to offer his service at festivals in Saskatchewan.

He opened the province's first commercial float tank last year. Zrymiak said he's encountered his share of skeptics.

"People ask why would you want to do that? It sounds ridiculous, you're just floating in water," he said. "I don't concern myself with people who don't want to float. There's enough people that do."

The tank cost $13,000 and he charges $45 for a 90-minute float.

He said the people who use his service fall into three main categories: stressed-out professionals, people with injuries or chronic pain, and athletes and artists who want to improve their performance.
