Paradise driver blows over 5 times the legal limit

Royal Newfoundland Constabulary responded to three instances of impaired driving on the northeast Avalon overnight.

Police received a report of impaired driving on Topsail Road in Paradise around 7:15 p.m., Thursday.

A 28-year-old man blew more than five-and-a-half times the legal blood-alcohol limit in one test, at which point police sought medical treatment for the man at hospital.

That investigation is ongoing.

Around 3:00 a.m., Friday, a man driving west in the eastbound lanes of New Gower Street in downtown St. John's failed to pull over after being signaled by police.

The driver was stopped a short time later. Police charged the man, 44, with impaired driving and held him in the lock-up for a court appearance.

Meanwhile, a 68-year-old man was arrested for impaired driving in the downtown area of St. John's around 11:30 p.m., Thursday.

In that case, two people alerted an officer in a marked police vehicle.

That man was released to appear in court at a later date.
