Photo released after Surrey double-carjacking and stabbing
Police have released a surveillance camera photo showing a man and a woman who may have been the pair who stabbed a man walking down the street, minutes after they were carjacked from a van they had just carjacked in North Surrey, B.C., this week.
Surrey RCMP Cpl. Bert Paquet said police believe the pair pictured were involved in both incidents, but can't be sure.
"Due to the circumstances and details of each case, we are looking to establish the connection between the two incidents," Paquet said in a written statement.
"Until we locate and speak to the individuals involved, we cannot confirm officially that the cases are linked. Our investigators have obtained a picture from a surveillance camera that we hope will generate tips from the public and assist us in identifying the couple," he said.
The two incidents happened at around 10:30 p.m. PT Wednesday night.
Police first were called after attendants at an Esso gas station in to 10400 block of King George Boulevard reported a carjacking.
The driver of a blue 2003 Dodge Caravan told police he had been approached by a man and woman as he started to get out of his vehicle. The man allegedly threatened him with a sharp-edged weapon and demanded the keys to the van.
The driver handed the keys over, but then two white men approached.
"The three males got into a physical exchange, during which one of the two white males got into the van and drove off," Paquet said in a written statement.
The van was last seen on King George Boulevard, and has not been located. The driver of the van was not hurt.
About 10 minutes later police were called about a 37-year-old man, who walked into a health clinic and said he had been walking on King George Boulevard and 106 Avenue when a man and woman approached him and he got into an argument with them.
"The male produced a sharp-edged weapon. The victim advised that they walked away from each other when he realized he had been stabbed," Paquet said.
