Queen Latifah produced show casts Dartmouth actress

A Dartmouth actress is welcoming a big break as a star in a hit TV show produced by Queen Latifah.

Back in October of 2014, Samantha Gracie audition for the show Single Ladies on the BET Network. After a strong audition and call back, Gracie was offered the role of Breelyn Goldberg, sister of one of the shows main characters April Goldberg.

"My agent called me and started talking to me with the name Breelyn, so I kind of knew what was going on then told me I would be in on Tuesday. It was really, really fast pace," Gracie said.

"I just kind of stood there dumbfounded and my roommate started for me before I could even click in to what had happened."

This is the fourth season of Single Ladies which Gracie says follows the same vibe as hit show Sex in the City.

The show has also amassed quite a following in the U.S. The two hour premier in the first season was watched by 2.8 million viewers.

"It’s funny when I got the role I started talking to people about it and the amount of people who watch it is definitely present," Gracie said.

Music runs in her blood

The show is executive produced by celebrity Queen Latifah’s Flavor Unit Entertainment, and features former Destiny’s Child member LeToya Luckett, Damien Wayans and Melissa De Sousa.

Gracie spent her time filming Single Ladies between Toronto and Los Angeles where she was able to meet Queen Latifah who Gracie calls a role model.

"She was far more stunning in person and really, really warm and extremely professional it’s very evident why she is where she is," Gracie said.

Music is also a big part of Single Ladies and for Gracie music runs in her blood.

Her father, John Gracie, is three time East Coast Music Award winner and Juno nominee.

Gracie placed two of her original works in this season of Single Ladies including "‘Don’t Know Where the River Flows’, a song written and performed with her father.

Single Ladies premieres on Wednesday, March 18 on BET’s Centric.
