Razor blade found taped to shopping cart at CrossIron Mills

RCMP is investigating after a razor blade was discovered taped to a shopping cart at the CrossIron Mills mall, just north of Calgary.

An employee of a mall store discovered the blade on Sunday. RCMP say although no one was injured, the placement of the 10 cm long blade could have easily cut someone using the cart.

"It was taped closer to the handle on the right side of the cart," said RCMP Cst. Jason Curtis. "It was taped blade-towards the shopper, so if you were reaching for a cart there is good potential you might get sliced by this blade the way it was placed."

Staff at CrossIron Mills have since checked all other shopping carts. No other razor blades were found.

Curtis says there is a potential the blade may have been left there by a contractor — at times contractors at the mall will use carts to transport their tools back and forth — but there have been no previous reports of this kind at CrossIron Mills so security is keeping an eye out.

Anyone with information about the razor blade is asked to contact Airdrie RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
