Samantha Walsh's father passes away

George Walsh, a central Newfoundland father who had campaigned to keep his daughter's killer in prison, has died suddenly.

Walsh and his wife, Millie, often spoke publicly about their quest to prevent Michael Lewis from getting parole for killing Samantha Walsh, 13, in Fleur de Lys in 2000.

Lewis, who was 16 at the time, was convicted of murder in the case. Despite the Walsh family's campaign and after rejected appeals, day parole for Lewis was approved last fall.

Lewis had misled investigators for 17 days before finally confessing that he had strangled Walsh in a cabin.

A service for George Walsh is expected to be held on Friday in Fleur de Lys.
