Police believe Hamilton Avenue vehicle fire is suspicious
Police believe an early morning fire in St. John's is suspicious.
The fire started in or around a parked car in front of a house on Hamilton Avenue early on Friday.
When crews arrived, they quickly put out the fire, but not before flames had spread to the house and a parked motorcycle.
The car and motorcycle were destroyed, and a couple of rooms inside the house were heavily damaged. The exterior of a nearby home was also damaged.
Two pitbulls and a snake were rescued from the house.
Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Const. Talia Murphy said an investigation is underway.
"The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, and the RNC is continuing to investigate it," said Murphy.
"We believe it to be suspicious in nature."
CBC News was told that the home or car was firebombed causing the inferno, however police are not confirming the report.
"We are asking anyone who may have information to contact us. Also, anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious individuals in the area shortly before, or shortly after the fire, which occured at approximately 3:30 this morning," said Murphy.
