Suspect in violent sex assault on jogger arrested in Saskatchewan

A high-risk sex offender has been arrested and charged in a violent sexual assault on a woman in Edmonton last April.

Ashton Natomagan, 33, was arrested in Prince Albert, Sask. on a Canada-wide warrant just over a week ago.

Police said he has ties to the community.

Natomagan faces nine charges in the assault including kidnapping, unlawful confinement, choking with intent to overcome resistance, sexual assault with threats to cause bodily harm, assault with a weapon, robbery and uttering threats.

The 37-year-old woman was running west on 116th Avenue and 102nd Avenue on Apr. 11 when she was sexually assaulted and robbed.

Police said the woman was dragged down an alley and tied up with green painter's tape. They say the assailant was carrying a box cutter.

Natomagan has a long criminal history of sex crimes and assaults.

Parole documents show Natomagan has a history of sexually and physically assaulting children. They say he is likely to commit another sexual offence involving a child.
