Vancouver police investigating targeted killing of 20-year-old man

Vancouver police are investigating what they say is a targeted killing of a 20-year-old man in East Vancouver on Monday night.

Const. Brian Montague says the victim was known to police and was on bail on a charge of manslaughter.

Police responded to 911 calls that came in shortly after 9 p.m. on Monday night near Seaforth Drive and Rupert Street.

When they arrived they found the man lying on the side of the road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"We'll continue with the examination of the scene — the canvass of witnesses and video obviously is very important," said Montague.

"Then we'll try to move forward by looking into this individual's criminal history, his associates."

They have not yet released the victim's name and have not yet arrested anyone in connection with the death.

This is the city's 10th homicide of the year, and it took place within blocks of a homicide the previous day which claimed the life of a 15-year-old teenager. Police don't believe the two death are connected at this time.
