Whitehorse bike thief confronted, bike recovered
Good fortune was smiling on a Whitehorse man over the weekend.
Adam Seeley's bike was stolen Friday night from his downtown home.
On Sunday, the thief rode right by him and his friends, while they were taking part in a fund raising walk for juvenile diabetes.
"And my friend grabbed the bicycle, so I guess that kid was out of luck that day. He probably couldn't have picked a worse time to ride down the Millennium Trail on my stolen bicycle," Seeley said.
Seeley says he forgot to bring his bike into his downtown home on Friday night. By morning it was gone.
Seeley reported the theft to the RCMP the same day and drove around the city in a fruitless search.
"The moral of the story is donate to charity and good things just might happen," Seeley told CBC.
Copper Ridge stolen bikes still missing
Another Whitehorse family wasn't so lucky with their bikes
Carole Dumont says two bicycles were stolen from her Copper Ridge garage, early Friday morning.
She says their vehicle was in the driveway, not locked, and the thief used the garage door opener to gain access to the house.
Dumont says they'd like to get the bikes back, but it's the impact on her eight-year-old son that's the worst part of it.
"He's scared of sleeping by himself, he wants the lights on, he's double checking to make sure all the doors are locked, so it's definitely had a great impact on our child," said Dumont
She says it's not the first time a thief has gone from house to house in her neighbourhood checking vehicles.
Dumont says it's a reminder to make sure to lock them up before going to bed.
