Woman to plead guilty in world poker champ home invasion
Bianca Rojas-Latraverse, the woman charged in the home invasion and violent robbery of her ex-boyfriend, world poker champion Jonathan Duhamel, will plead guilty, according to her lawyer.
Her trial was supposed to begin last Friday at a Longueuil court house but was postponed until today, because Rojas-Latraverse had an altercation at the Tanguay Detention Centre. Today's court date was postponed once again to Sept. 21 because Rojas-Latraverse has decided to plead guilty to some of the charges.
The 20-year-old is charged with armed robbery, breaking and entering, forced confinement, assault and conspiracy in connection with the home invasion.
Her lawyer, Sarah Desabrais, said Rojas-Latraverse wanted to start off with "a clean slate" and had "a change of heart."
Duhamel was beaten and robbed at his Boucherville, Que., home on Dec. 21, 2011. The attackers took $115,000 in cash and jewelry worth about $50,000.
John-Stephen Clark-Lemay, 22, and Anthony Bourque, 20, were also charged with armed robbery, breaking and entering, forced confinement, assault and conspiracy in the case.
Bourque appeared in court Monday, but his case has been postponed until Oct. 15.
A fourth suspect, André Robert-Perron, 27, faces a charge of possessing stolen property. A police investigator said when he was arrested, he was found with the poker champion's stolen Rolex watch.
Robert-Perron was released from custody in late December on his own recognizance.
Bourque was granted bail in January, while Clark-Lemay and Rojas-Latraverse remain in custody.
The poker star told police he was sleeping when a man rang his doorbell at 9:15 a.m. claiming to have a package to deliver.
When Duhamel opened the door the man forced his way in, and a second person appeared at the entrance.
Duhamel said his attackers threatened him, beat him and demanded to know where he kept his safe.
After he opened his safe, he was tied up and robbed.
The attack left Duhamel in hospital with minor injuries.
Duhamel won a world title in 2010 in Las Vegas, earning $8.9 million US.
