1 arrested, 1 injured after Oshawa fight, shooting outside nightclub

A man has been arrested and another man was injured following a nightclub fight and shooting in downtown Oshawa early Saturday, Durham Regional Police say.

The man in custody is facing firearm charges. The injured man was taken to hospital, received staples in his head and released. Both men are in their 20s.

Duty Insp. Cathy Bawden, spokesperson for Durham Regional Police Service, said police received a call about the incident at about 2:00 a.m.

Bawden said the fight occurred inside and outside the Music Hall Night Club and Concert Theatre, 39 King St. E., near Albert Street, and the shooting happened after the fight.

She said the two men began fighting in the nightclub, they were asked to leave by security, and they continued to fight outside. Then one man went to a vehicle and retrieved a gun.

"It all went outside," she said.

'That gun is off the street'

At least one shot was fired but no one was injured. Police arrested the man with the gun at the scene and seized the weapon.

"The male was arrested, that gun is off the street and we are working diligently to investigate," Bawden said.

"I want to reassure people that their community is safe."

The injuries suffered in the fight were considered not life-threatening.

Bawden said police are interviewing a number of witnesses and they are searching the scene for evidence.

Police are trying to determine if more than one shot was fired, she said.

No information on charges was available.
