1 dead, 3 rescued after boat sinks in Lake Manitoba

Divers encounter rough, murky waters in Gregoire Lake recovery mission

One woman is dead after she and three others went out in a boat on Lake Manitoba.

The group of four boarded and launched a boat near Oak Point on Thursday, RCMP say. They were reported missing at about 11:45 p.m. after they didn't return.

RCMP searched for the group from shore overnight but were unable to find them.

Officers and boaters patrolled the lake Friday morning and found two men, age 36 and 53, and one 37-year-old woman, north of where they launched the boat on Thursday. All three are from Lundar, Man.

The body of a 54-year-old woman from Oak Point was also found in the area.

The boat was found sunk near shore soon after, RCMP said.

Investigators don't yet know whether any of the four were wearing lifejackets.

The cause of death is under investigation.
