A man was killed and another was badly injured in stabbings in Mississauga early Monday, Peel police say.

The stabbings happened in a strip mall parking lot in the area of Brittania Road and Hurontario Street shortly before 2:25 a.m.

One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene while the other was taken to a trauma centre for treatment. Police said his injuries are considered non-life threatening.

No further information about the men was provided by police on scene.

Multiple people were seen running from the area, but no descriptions were available late Monday morning.

The strip mall includes a banquet hall, night clubs and several restaurants. Police couldn't say whether the two men patronized any of the establishments prior to the stabbings.

Homicide detectives have taken over the investigation.
