1 injured in wrong-way crash on northbound I-5 in Tacoma Sunday morning, troopers say

Minutes after a wrong-way crash near Puyallup Sunday morning, troopers were dispatched to another wrong-way crash on northbound Interstate 5 in Tacoma.

About 2:15 a.m., a 36-year-old Tacoma man, driving south in the northbound lanes, crashed into another vehicle in the area of 56th Street, according to the Washington State Patrol. That man is accused of driving under the influence.

After the impact of the crash, the causing vehicle rolled and came to a stop on the the right shoulder.

The Tacoma man and the 33-year-old Lakewood man driving the other vehicle were not injured. The Lakewood man’s passenger, a 23-year-old man from Ruston, was injured and taken to Tacoma General Hospital.

Following the crash, the road was blocked for more than four hours, according to the State Patrol.
