Driver in fatal 97th Street crash facing criminal charges

A woman was killed in a fiery crash in north Edmonton late Monday afternoon.

Police say the woman was the driver of a Nissan Xterra that was rear-ended by an Infiniti G37 near 97th Street and 160th Avenue around 4:30 p.m.

The impact caused the Nissan to catch fire. Both vehicles ended up in the ditch on the east side of the intersection.

The woman died at the scene. The male driver of the Infiniti was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The man, who is in mid-twenties, is facing charges. Police say alcohol and speed are factors in the collision.
