13-year-old boy dead after southeast Edmonton hit-and-run: police
A 13-year-old boy is dead after a being hit by a vehicle while riding his bike in southeast Edmonton early Wednesday morning, police say.
Police said in a news release that officers have identified the suspect vehicle, but are still searching for it and the driver who fled the collision scene.
Paramedics called the Edmonton Police Service for help shortly after 4 a.m. Wednesday, after they found a 13-year-old boy in medical distress at 48th Street and 34th Avenue, near the Minchau neighbourhood.
He died from his injuries shortly after.
The boy was riding his bike when a vehicle struck him in the eastbound lanes near the intersection and fled the scene, police say.
The vehicle, believed to be a blue Mazda 3 sedan or hatchback that was manufactured sometime around 2014 to 2018. Investigators say the vehicle was damaged on the front end of the driver's side.
The EPS major collision investigations section has since taken over the investigation.
Police are asking anyone with information about the driver or the suspect vehicle, or dash camera footage from the Mill Woods area that recorded the collision or suspect, to contact police.
