After 15 years, popular uptown Charlotte restaurant and bar set to close due to rent hikes
Dandelion Market is on the move, heading out of uptown Charlotte after 15 years of serving sips and bites along Fifth Street.
The restaurant’s ownership cited rising rent prices as the reason for the move to close up shop on Sunday, July 21.
“It’s a difficult decision, but we’ve been in on-going rent negotiations and will not be able to come to a resolution,” co-owner Tommy Timmins said in a news release. “Any rent increase, significant or otherwise in this current market is simply not sustainable for the long term.
“It’s been an unbelievable run for Dandelion Market and we’re grateful for everyone who made it an uptown fixture these past 15 years,” he added. “We are especially grateful to our loyal customers who have made Dandelion Market a success, as well as our dedicated staff, some of whom have been with us since our opening.”
Maynard Goble and Kevin Devin opened Dandelion Market alongside Timmons in January 2010. Its known for crafted, shareable dishes including Cauliflower Fritters, Sweet Potato Gnocchi and Cherry Glazed Lamb Lollipops. The team also owns The Workman’s Friend, Tyber Creek, Connolly’s on Fifth, Prohibition and event space The Daily.
Tyber Creek closed back in March amid redevelopment, but plans call for it to move to the former 1501 South Mint space in South End. Changes to the other restaurant and bar concepts aren’t expected at this time.
“Prohibition and Connolly’s are key pillars of uptown’s nightlife scene and doing well,” Timmons said. “Since pivoting The Daily into an event space, it’s thriving in an underserved market.”
Until a new space is found for Dandelion Market, the team plans to work on a food truck concept that will serve its familiar small plates at Tyber Creek’s new space. The pub is awaiting permit approval to reopen.
