Mayson Machining $1M fire investigated by fire marshal

An investigator from the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal will look into the cause of a fire at Windsor auto parts plant.

Fire damage to Mayson Machining Ltd. is expected to top $1 million.

The fire broke out Monday night at the factory on Sandwich Street at at Prince Road.

Crews are still on the scene this morning.

Fire prevention officer Lee Tome says there was a handful of employees in the plant when the fire started.

"They were notified of the fire. All the employees were able to get out of the building safely, called the fire department," he said. "When we arrived, there was heavy fire and smoke coming from the building."

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Mayson makes foam seats and other automotive parts.

Tome says the hazmat team did air quality testing.

People living nearby were asked to stay indoors and keep their windows closed.
