2 people rescued after faulty space heater cord causes fire on Moy Ave.

Two people needed to be rescued from a house fire on Moy Avenue early Friday morning.

A father and daughter both suffer minor smoke inhalation in the fire at the intersection of Moy Avenue and Niagara Street. Firefighters rescued them from an upper window.

John Lee, of Windsor Fire and Rescue, said the fire broke out around 6 a.m. at a two-storey house on Moy Avenue, just south of Cataraqui Street in Walkerville.

The failure of a cord on a space heater is the cause, the fire department said in a tweet.

Damage is estimated to be $70,000.

It was the second of two early morning fires Friday.

Around 2 a.m., there was a fire on Bruce Avenue, near Riverside Drive.

Lee said someone left something on a stove, and then left the apartment.

Damage in estimated at $60,000.
