2 teen boys charged in armed robbery of Toronto convenience store

Toronto police have charged two teen boys, 16 and 14, in connection with the armed robbery of a convenience store in the Jane and Finch neighbourhood.

Police said the 16-year-old was charged with nine offences, while the 14-year-old was charged with three offences. Both boys appeared in court on Tuesday.

One of the boys was allegedly armed with a black semi-automatic handgun.

Police said they received a call about the robbery in the Jane Street and Sheppard Avenue West area at about 7 p.m. Monday.

The boys, both from Toronto, allegedly covered their faces with balaclavas and entered a convenience store. One pointed the gun at a clerk and demanded money. The boys obtained about $200 and fled.

Glock 9mm handgun recovered

Police reviewed security camera footage in the area and interviewed witnesses. Officers from 31 Division worked with the Emergency Task Force and the Hold Up squad to track down the suspects, Const. Jenifferjit Sidhu said Wednesday.

No one was injured.

The names of the boys cannot be released under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The 16-year-old was charged with the following:

- Robbery while armed with a firearm.

- Disguise with intent.

- Possession of property obtained by crime.

- Use firearm during the commission of an indictable offence.

- Careless storage of a firearm.

- Point firearm.

- Unauthorized possession of a firearm.

- Possession of a prohibited device.

- Possession of a firearm obtained by crime.

The 14 year-old boy was charged with: robbery while armed with a firearm; disguise with intent; and possession of property obtained by crime.

Police say they recovered a Glock 9mm handgun and ammunition.
