2024 American Music Awards Gets Airdate On CBS
The 2024 American Music Awards will air live on CBS Sunday, October 6, its first time on the network following its move from ABC. The world’s largest fan-voted awards show will kick off at 8 PM on CBS and stream on Paramount+, CBS and Dick Clark Productions announced Friday.
The AMAs celebrate the year’s top achievements in music determined by the fans, for the fans. Nominees are based on key fan interactions as reflected on the Billboard charts – including streaming, album sales, song sales and radio airplay.

The American Music Awards were last held on November 20, 2022. The AMAs were created by Dick Clark in 1973, when ABC’s contract to air the Grammy Awards expired, and had been a staple on the network for decades. ABC’s most recent contract ended with the November 2022 telecast. The AMAs have now joined the Grammys on CBS’ roster of music awards shows.
The deal for CBS to air the AMAs was part of a 5-year deal for the network, closed earlier this year, to air the Golden Globes. Penske Media Eldridge, a PMC subsidiary and joint venture between Penske Media Corporation and Eldridge, acquired AMA producer Dick Clark Productions in 2023. PMC is the owner of Deadline.
