Jenn Tran was a surprise pick for the 2024 Bachelorette — here's what to expect from her season
Jenn Tran was announced as the star of season 21 of "The Bachelorette" on Monday night.
She was one of the women who competed for Joey Graziadei's heart on season 28 of "The Bachelor."
Season 21 premieres on July 8 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
Joey Graziadei's journey to find his future wife on "The Bachelor" came to a dramatic conclusion with him choosing between Kelsey Anderson, a junior project manager based in New Orleans, and Daisy Kent, an account executive from Minnesota. In the end, Joey got down on one knee and proposed to Kelsey, and she gladly accepted.
But while season 28 of "The Bachelor" is now over, there's plenty for Bachelor Nation to look forward to when Jenn Tran, who was eliminated just before hometowns, gets a second chance at love on the next season of "The Bachelorette."

Jenn Tran is making history as the first Asian-American Bachelorette
Jenn, a 26-year-old physician's assistant student from Miami, had a strong connection with Joey on season 28 of "The Bachelor" and was one of the final six women in the competition. After being eliminated the week before hometowns, Jenn returned for the "Women Tell All" episode, where she said that people rallied around her after she got her heart broken on the show.
She was announced as the star of season 21 of "The Bachelor" during the "After the Final Rose" segment following the "Bachelor" finale. Her casting makes her the first Asian-American Bachelorette in the franchise's history. Jenn said that she was honored to be the first Asian-American Bachelorette after feeling like her culture was often reduced to stereotypes and supporting characters in the media.
During her appearance on "After the Final Rose," Jenn also said that she's looking for someone with a "big personality" whom she can have "cheeky banter" with. She said that getting engaged is the goal, but ultimately she just wants to find her "perfect match."
The announcement came as a surprise to much of Bachelor Nation, as longtime spoiler hunter Reality Steve had previously reported that the decision was down to Maria Georgas and Daisy Kent. Both stars had the largest social media followings of all the season 28 contestants, with fan-favorite Maria leading the pack with 545,000 Instagram followers at the time of publication.
"I mean, damn good job by them keeping it under wraps. Didn't have any idea it was Jenn," he wrote on X. "But congrats to her. On to spoiling!"
(Georgas, for her part, later said she was offered the role but had to decline, saying the idea was "overwhelming" and she was "not ready.")
'The Bachelorette' season 21 cast features 25 men competing for Jenn's heart
The contestants for Jenn's season were announced on June 3, and range from 24 to 35 years old. One of the most notable suitors is Aaron, an aerospace engineer who's the twin brother of "Bachelor in Paradise" star Noah Erb. Aaron is seven minutes older than Noah.
Other contestants include a thrill-seeking real estate broker; an aesthetics consultant whos' a Swiftie; a startup founder who made Forbes' 30 Under 30 list; and a pet portrait entrepreneur who ran two ultramarathons.

ABC announced the show's summer return during Disney's Television Critics Association Press Tour panel in February. During "After the Final Rose," host Jesse Palmer revealed that Jenn's season of "The Bachelorette" premieres in July.
