257,000 saws sold at Lowe’s got recalled. There’s a problem that can cut parts off you

Electric saws that keep going after they’re supposed to stop aren’t the stuff of horror movies, but the two kinds of Kobalt Brand 40-volt Lithium Ion saws recalled Wednesday.

Both saws were sold exclusively at Lowe’s stores and Lowes.com, distributed by Hongkong Sun Rise Trading and made by Changzhou Globe.

For the 151,400 Cordless Electric saws, the problem stated in the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recall notice is that, because of the switch contacts’ welding, “the chainsaw can remain in the ‘on’ position, posing a laceration hazard to consumers.”

Hongkong Sun Rise has heard of this happening 48 times, but none with injuries.

This covers models Nos. KCS 120-07 and KCS 120 with date codes 11/01/13 to 03/31/20.

For the 106,520 8-inch Cordless Electric Pole saws, the problem is, “The switch on the recalled pole saws can fail while under a heavy load, and cause the unit to continue running after the user releases the trigger, posing a laceration hazard to consumers.”

Hongkong Sun Rise knows about this happening 65 times with this model.

This covers saws with date codes from 01/01/17 to 02/28/19 and item Nos. 796791; 1083769; 970801; 812419; and 812424.

Though you can probably get a refund if you press for it at Lowe’s, Honkong Sun Rise is offering a free repair to those who call 855-378-8826, Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern time and Friday through Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern time.
