RCMP investigating house fire in Montague
The P.E.I. fire marshal has turned over the investigation of a house fire in Montague to the RCMP.
Three people were displaced when the fire destroyed the two-storey home Sunday morning.
Tom MacLeod, chief of the Montague Fire Department, said they received a call about a fire on the Valleyfield Road around 3:30 a.m.
MacLeod said the residents, a woman and her two adult sons, were out of the house when firefighters arrived.
"When we got there the bottom floor was fully engulfed. There was fire coming out the front window and the front door," MacLeod said.
"We got it knocked down pretty quick but it got into the attic and a few small tight spots upstairs, and it took us a long time to get all those hot spots under control."
House 'completely burned out'
MacLeod said the house is "completely burned out inside" and not salvageable.
The residents of the home are being assisted with food, shelter and clothing by the Canadian Red Cross, officials with the organization said in a release.
