300 still without power after fierce wind storm
New Brunswick power crews say they're working 16-hour shifts to help fix the last few hundred homes without electricity.
NB power says about 300 customers are entering their fourth day without power after high winds and driving rain took a toll on power lines and transformers on Thursday.
"It's rural and New Brunswick is full of trees. And there are people living by themselves in the woods," said worker Paul Williams.
Utility crews from Quebec and Nova Scotia have been called in to help with the restoration effort, primarily in Quispamsis area.
Some families say their houses are freezing and they can't use their water.
The Red Cross set up a warming shelter at a hockey arena, locally known as the Q-Plex. The organization said one mother and her kids spend two night sleeping on canvas cots at the arena.
NB Power said it hopes to restore the power by Sunday night.
Emergency measures officials in the Kennebecasis Valley said they'll write a report on how they think the four-day blackout was handled and whether there are anyway take-away lessons for future power outage management.
At the height of the windstorm, NB Power reported 39,000 customers had lost electricity.
