4th case of measles confirmed in Edmonton

A fourth case of measles has been confirmed in the Edmonton region, prompting health officials to warn of possible exposure to the disease.

Tha patient was never hospitalized, but officials are asking anyone who was at the Meadowlark Shopping Centre or the DynaLIFE Lab at that location on Monday between 11:40 a.m. and 2 p.m. to watch for symptoms.

"Every new case of measles can spread to others really easily," said Edmonton medical officer of health Marcia Johnson. "We anticipate there will be more cases."

Anyone who shows symptoms within the next two or three weeks is urged to call Health Link Alberta at 1-866-408-5465 before seeking medical attention in person.

The case is linked to the first case of measles reported by Alberta Health Services in the city on Apr. 19th.

That case involved a child on an Air Canada flight from Vancouver to Edmonton 10 days earlier.

People who have not already had measles or have not received two doses of measles vaccine may be at risk of developing the disease.
