5 of Anne Hathaway's best looks this year and 3 that missed the mark
Anne Hathaway has become as recognized for her fashion as she has for her acting.
Her style has been notably sharp while promoting her new film, "The Idea of You."
But she's also worn a few looks that have missed the mark this year.
Anne Hathaway has become as recognized for her style as she has for her acting.
The 41-year-old movie star became a fashion It-Girl with the help of stylist Erin Walsh a few years back and has now graced red carpets, fashion shows, and movie events in stunning looks.
Her evolving fashion has also led her to business deals, namely becoming a Bulgari ambassador in 2022 and the face of Versace campaigns starting in 2023 — a role Donatella Versace handpicked Hathaway for.
But most recently, her fashion has been on display while Hathaway promotes her new film, "The Idea of You," which has the most-watched trailer for a streaming film with over 125 million views.
Here are her best looks of the year and a few that missed the mark.
The black gown Anne Hathaway wore to the National Board Of Review Gala wasn't the most memorable.
Designed by Giorgio Armani, the strapless dress had a deep U-shaped neckline, small waist cutouts, and delicate black sequins in floral shapes from top to bottom.
She also wore diamond bracelets, matching earrings, and rosy makeup. But while Hathaway looked glamorous, the outfit was overly simple.
The same dress in a different, brighter color would have made all the difference.
She nailed Moncler's aesthetic at the brand's recent fashion show.
She wore a white snowsuit that featured cargo pants, a thick belt, and a long-sleeved top. The latter piece had a zip-up collar and two large pockets across the chest.
And to perfect the winter vibe of her outfit, Hathaway also wore a black high-neck top with gloved sleeves beneath the outerwear.
For accessories, she chose a silver purse and chunky white sneakers.
The actor's hairstyle and accessories didn't suit her fashion-forward dress at a Versace fashion show.
She attended the runway event in a vibrant red leather dress. The piece had off-the-shoulder straps, a fitted bodice, and a knee-length skirt with wide ruching at the hips.
Though the dress was fun and unique, her accessories didn't complement the garment. She wore pointed pumps that looked more classic than her fashion-forward dress and carried a black purse that contrasted its bright color.
She also wore stark makeup and wispy bangs, which might have looked more streamlined if styled across her forehead rather than pushed to the sides of her face.
She proved that checkerboard will never go out of style while in Milan.
Fashion experts and influencers have recently argued that the checkerboard trend will fall out of style this year. But if Hathaway has any say, that won't be the case.
She sported a black-and-white checkerboard dress beneath a black trench coat for a Versace party. She also accessorized the chic look with the same red pumps she wore earlier and a mix of silver and gold jewelry.
The outfit was fun, youthful, and perfect for a party.
Hathaway's Versace gown at the Screen Actors Guild Awards was outdated in style.
She attended the event to reunite with her "The Devil Wears Prada" costars onstage and present an award. Her off-the-shoulder gown, in a shade of cerulean blue, nodded to a famous line from the film.
But aside from honoring the classic movie, the dress missed the mark. Its plunging crop top sat awkwardly above its skirt, and its oversize belt was reminiscent of Y2K styles.
However, Hathaway nailed her accessories. She wore a unique pair of silver sandals and a statement diamond necklace from Bulgari.
"The Idea of You" star wore the ultimate pantsuit at the Film Independent Spirit Awards.
Designed by Valentino, her sleeveless pantsuit was lined with crystals across the chest and covered entirely in silver sequins. It also had a fitted waistline and wide-leg pants.
The outfit stood out on the blue carpet and paired perfectly with her casual hairstyle and bangs.
She had fun with feathers at the South by Southwest festival.
Once again, Hathaway proved she knows how to elevate a casual look.
She wore a white tank top lined with feathers at the waist and two-toned jeans that just barely showed her pointed pumps.
The fun, frilly outfit almost looked like something Mia Thermopolis from "The Princess Diaries" would wear.
And she showed the power of a sparkling minidress at the same event.
Patou designed her metallic minidress, which was silver and lined with gold crystals across the waist and hemline.
It was an ideal style for the South by Southwest event, and she paired it with the perfect pair of shining platform sandals.
