5 weekend events in and around Vancouver May 1-3

Sunny skies are in the forecast this weekend, but if you're looking for something to do other than walk or ride the seawall, On the Coast has got you covered.

1. BC Ukrainian Cultural Festival

The 20th annual BC Ukrainian Cultural Festival takes place at the Clarke Theatre in Mission. There will be live music, arts and crafts and children's troupes from across the province performing dance routines.

2. DOXA

The 14th Annual DOXA Documentary Film Festival returns to Vancouver this week, showcasing some of the most extraordinary films from around the world. Check out our top five picks for this year's festival.

3. Got Craft? Spring Market

This is Vancouver's largest indie craft fair, showcasing handmade goods including jewelry, ceramics, and even plush toys.

If you're new to the crafting scene, don't fret, there are D.I.Y workshops to help you get started. Get there early because the first 50 people each day receive a free swag bag!

4.Beaty's Birding Bonanza at the UBC Beaty Biodiversity Museum

Billed as a day full of fun in honour of Bird Week, the Birding Bonanza offers something for everyone of all ages.

Take a guided walk with one of the museum's experts, sketch your favourite avian specimen with digital media specialist Derek Tan or take in one of the many information sessions offered throughout the day.

5. International Dance Day Richmond

Founded by the International Dance Council in 1982, this event aims to expose the broader public to the art of dance.

Drawing from the city's diverse talent pool of professional dancers, there will be performances by Sudnya Dance Academy, XBa DanceCo, and the Zavicaj Serbian Folk Dance Group.
