9-Month-Old Girl Stabbed in Sydney Mall Attack Now in ‘Stable’ Condition, Say Health Officials

The infant girl's mother was one of six people killed in the attack on April 13

A 9-month-old baby who was stabbed during the April 13 Sydney mall knife attack is now in a “stable condition."

Per a Friday, April 19 press release obtained by PEOPLE, New South Wales Health stated that the infant — whose mom died protecting her during the incident — is at “Sydney Children’s Hospital in a stable condition on a ward.”

The release confirmed that five other people injured in the attack are still receiving treatment in multiple hospitals across the city, including an adult female who remains in the ICU in a “serious but stable condition.”

The baby girl suffered chest and arm injuries in the attack, according to BBC News. On April 17, the outlet reported that the infant had been moved out of intensive care, citing health officials.

Following the attack, New South Wales Police Commissioner Karen Webb said in a news conference, per 7News Australia, that the infant had been transported to the hospital for surgery.

The baby’s mother, Ashlee Good, 38, died from her injuries following the April 13 attack at Westfield Bondi Junction, according to reports from News.com.au, CNN and the BBC.

Five others were also killed in the stabbing attack. The New South Wales Police Force confirmed their deaths in a press release.

The other victims have since been identified as Dawn Singleton, 25, Jade Young, 47, Faraz Tahir, 30, Pikria Darchia, 55, and Cheng Yixuan, 25, according to the BBC.

The attacker, identified in reports as Joel Cauchi, 40, was shot and killed by a police officer inside the mall, according to the outlets.

A GoFundMe page set up to raise money for Good’s family has now raised over $650,000 (approximately $417,165 U.S. dollars).

According to the GoFundMe, Good’s daughter is called Harriet.

“Being a mother to baby Harriet and partner to Dan was Ash’s whole life,” the organizer wrote. “Her love and commitment to them was evident to all who knew her.”

“Ash was a ray of sunshine and positivity in every aspect of her life and died a hero saving her little girl from the most unspeakable evil,” the page’s description added.
