99-year-old grandmother meets her favourite actor
A 99-year-old grandma got a thrill of a lifetime when her favourite actor Denzel Washington came to meet his biggest, and maybe oldest, fan.
Her grandson posted the story of their meeting on reddit and revealed his grandmother worked at the library in the the actor’s home town of Mt. Vernon, NY. The post from metalgamer continued, “if you’ve ever met her, she will tell you the story of how she gave Denzel Washington his first library card. And that he was the cutest thing and how wonderful he was.” He added “I have heard this story easily 300+ times in my life.”
He said the nursing home staff wanted to do something special for her 99th birthday and managed to get Washington on the phone with the fan. Her grandson added that while on the call they got another surprise “(Washington) said he would be in our city in December and would stop by and voila here he is!”
The meeting went well, with the two laughing together, “like he was old friends with her. He teared up a few times seeing the love and respect she showed for him.”
A fan of the actor for decades, according to the post the nearly-centurian’s favourite film is “Training Day,” saying, “she likes the hard edge movies.”
The grandma made sure that Washington didn’t leave empty handed either, saying in the post that “She knits a scarf a day and gave him three for him, his wife, and his mother. He kept saying with his publicist ‘this is what it’s all about.’”
In a later post, the grandson said that the actor was fully charmed by the encounter, “Denzel did say to me. ‘She’s my grandma now too. You’d better share her.’ I of course said, ‘yes, sir.’ “
