Airdrie lab worker guilty of peeking into acquaintances’ health records
A laboratory assistant in Airdrie has been convicted of accessing the personal health information of 34 people.
Those people include neighbours, friends and the family of a man she had a personal relationship with. In one case, a lab test result was altered.
Christie McCarthy worked at the Calgary Laboratory Services patient centre in Airdrie.
Alberta`s privacy commissioner opened a file on McCarthy after the company reported a breach of personal health information.
She was charged in 2012 and pleaded guilty to improper access of health information under the Health Information Act and on three criminal code charges of uttering forged documents.
McCarthy received a four-month conditional sentence, eight months probation and a $500 fine.
