Alexa Chung has revealed that she suffers from endometriosis. The presenter, model and designer shared news of her condition on Instagram, posting an image of herself in hospital.

She captioned the picture by writing, "I don’t want to belong to any club that would accept me as a member, but here I am. #endometriosisclub #partytime#woohoo #lifelongmembership#sorryifyouhaveittooitsucks#endometriosisawareness"

Endometriosis is a painful condition where tissue similar to the lining of the womb starts to grow in other places, such as the ovaries and fallopian tubes. It can affect women at any age, but is most common among those in their 30s and 40s.

One of the biggest complications of endometriosis is difficulty in getting pregnant or being unable to get pregnant at all. The causes of the condition are unknown.

Chung also posted an Instagram where she brought her signature wit and humour to the situation. Holding her stomach, she described her hospital gown as, "This sexy lil number was completely open at the back and made from the finest printed cotton poplin. Ties and trims are grosgrain ribbon. One size fits all. Stunning bracelet made from digital print paper and sellotape (every bangle is made to order)."

The designer is the latest celebrity to openly talk about their battle with endometriosis. Both Lena Dunham and Daisy Ridley have publicly discussed the challenges of the condition.

"To any of you who are suffering with anything, go to a doctor; pay for a specialist; get your hormones tested, get allergy testing; keep on top of how your body is feeling and don't worry about sounding like a hypochondria," said Ridley in 2016. "From your head to the tips of your toes we only have one body, let us all make sure ours our working in tip top condition, and take help if it's needed."
