DC Waste & Recycling

Alhambra recently contracted with DC Waste & Recycling out of Hillsboro as its new waste disposal company.

Trash items will be picked up on Wednesdays, and the company picks up the recycling on a weekly basis rather than bi-monthly as was done previously.

Pre-K Screening

Children ages 3-5 are encouraged to get screened. This screening will help to determine if a child would benefit from early childhood classes.

Parents that have their children screened are under no obligation to sign the child up for school.

If interested in having a child screened, call the Highland Primary office to schedule an appointment.

Scheduling times and dates are as follows:

  • 9 a.m. to noon Friday, Sept. 22;

  • 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Oct. 18.

Free Flu Shots Available Soon

Alhambra Township will offer free flu shots to the residents of Alhambra and Alhambra Township.

The shots will be given at the Township Fireman’s Hall 3-6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9.

High-dose vaccines will be provided to seniors. Children ages 6 months and older are also eligible.

For those with difficulties walking, a drive up is available.

Call Gail Ohren at 618-830-1384 to set up a time for someone to come out to your vehicle and administer your shot.

Haunted House

The Salem Church Exhale Youth Group will host a Haunted House at the Madison County Fairgrounds in the cattle barns. This event will take place:

  • 7-11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, and Saturday, Oct. 28;

  • 7-10 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, and Tuesday, Oct. 31.

Admission is $5. Proceeds will go towards Exhale Youth Groups Mission Trips.

Local Volunteer Fire Department Mutual Aid

Alhambra Firemen recently went out on a Mutual Aid call in the Shoal Creek District.

A residential fire can be one of the worst cases for our firemen. The reason many give up their time to join the fire department is because they would like to think that if the worst happened and their own house should catch fire, firemen would come to their aid.

The call for assistance went out and was quickly answered by fire departments from Pocahontas, Mulberry Grove, New Douglas, Livingston-Williamson, Taylor Springs, Alhambra and Rural Med Bond County.

This is what being a volunteer firemen is all about. Think about joining; your help may make a difference.

Hitz Residents Find a Reason to Celebrate

They may be older and may need a little more help doing ordinary things each day, but they can still smile and find a reason to enjoy each day of life.

Maybe it’s National Hamburger Day, Pizza Day or the best of the national holidays, which was last week and celebrated by the residents of Hitz Memorial Home: National Beer Lovers Day.

This brought about a lot of smiles and a chance to lift a glass of cheer.

Alhambra Rehab and Healthcare

Grandparents Day was celebrated with a small party and lots of love and smiles as grandchildren came to help celebrate with their loved ones.
