Ambitious road work planned

Enniskillen Township Road Superintendent Mike Cumming called 2024 “an ambitious year” for the municipality.

The 2024 roads budget comes in with a price tag of $1,697,500, compared to only $804,000 in 2023. Members of Enniskillen Township had a look what was being proposed for road and bridge construction at its Feb. 5 meeting.

There will be $700,000 spent on Shiloh Line with asphalt work from Fairweather Road to Marthaville Road, while another $350,000 is to be spent on Rokeby Line from Fairweather Road to Plowing Match Road. The Rokeby Line work is a continuation from last year. There is $300,000 budgeted for drainage work.

Some money is also going to be spent on two bridges in the township. There is $70,000 budgeted for work on the Durham Creek Bridge on Black Ash Road and $200,000 for work on the Black Creek Bridge on the Marthaville Road. Inspections are needed on both bridges before this work goes out to tender, said Administrator-Clerk Duncan McTavish.

If the report comes back the Black Creek Bridge needs to be replaced, it will be two years before any work can be done, said McTavish. He said it is an old bridge.

A pick-up truck is also to be replaced at a cost of $70,000 with a trade in for the tractor at $7,500.

Council gave its approval of the plan for this year.
