American Airlines apologizes after Charlotte flight to San Francisco diverted Saturday

American Airlines apologized Saturday night after a flight from Charlotte to San Francisco diverted to St. Louis.

Flight 2651 with 174 passengers aboard landed safely and was inspected by an AA maintenance team, according to the airline. No injuries were reported, AA said.

The flight diverted due to a possible maintenance issue, according to a statement provided to The Charlotte Observer by AA spokeswoman Bri Harper.

Passengers boarded a replacement plane that was scheduled to depart St. Louis for San Francisco at 7:10 p.m. central time.

“We never want to disrupt our customer’s travel plans and apologize for the inconvenience,” according to the AA statement.

This is a developing story.
