Andre Braugher's spokesperson confirms cause of death
Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Andre Braugher's spokesperson has confirmed his cause of death.
His long-time publicist Jennifer Allen told The New York Times on Thursday (December 14) that Braugher had been battling lung cancer at the time of his death.
The news broke on Tuesday (December 12) that Braugher had passed away following a short illness at the age of 61, sending fans across the world into mourning.
The two-time Emmy Award winner found early fame with a powerful lead performance as Detective Frank Pembleton in Homicide: Life on the Street, which is part of the Law & Order TV universe.
He earned a whole new generation of fans with a more comedic portrayal of a cop, as Raymond Holt on the Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Other memorable credits include The Good Fight, New Girl, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, the film version of Stephen King's The Mist and Marvel's Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.
Upon his passing, Terry Crews, who played Sergeant Terry Jeffords on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, wrote on Instagram: "Can't believe you're gone so soon. I'm honoured to have known you, laughed with you, worked with you and shared 8 glorious years watching your irreplaceable talent. This hurts.
"You left us too soon. You taught me so much. I will be forever grateful for the experience of knowing you."
Joe Lo Truglio, who played Charles Boyle on the procedural comedy, remembered Braugher as being "passionate about the things he loved".
"I miss him so much already. What an honour to work with a man who knew what it was really all about. I feel blessed and thankful. Miss you Capt Holt. Love, Porkchop," he wrote on Instagram.
Chelsea Peretti, who played Gina Linetti on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, remembered her late co-star as "the epitome of still waters run deep".
Braugher leaves behind a wife, Ami Brabson, and three children.
