Married at First Sight New Zealand star Andrew Jury has died aged 33.

His father, Ron Jury, told the New Zealand Herald that he was “struggling” in jail after being arrested on April 2 and had displayed “red flag” that authorities should have picked up. The Jury family is “bewildered” and “deeply saddened” by his passing, added Ron Jury.

Jury’s passing was first revealed by some of his former castmates, including Brett and Angel Renall, who wrote a joint statement confirming his death. He had appeared with them on the Warner Bros Discovery New Zealand show in 2017.

“It’s with the heaviest hearts we’ve come together to acknowledge the passing of Andrew Jury,” read the statement, which was reported by the New Zealand Herald. “We had the absolute pleasure of filming and participating in a show which leaves us intricately linked for a lifetime.”

They said that despite experiencing “struggles” Jury was always friendly and the life of the party during our shared experience, and he really valued his time on the show. At this time, our entire cast wishes to send our deepest condolences and love to his family.”

In the dating show, in which random people are coupled together based on expert analysis of their tastes and personalities and, groom Jury was matched with bride Vicky Gleeson-Stokes. They stayed together during the series, but split after filming ended and Jury later criticized the show’s production.

A spokesperson for WBD, which produces MAFS NZ for its Three network, said in a statement: “Warner Bros Discovery expresses our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Andrew Jury.

“WBD takes duty of care extremely seriously and has protocols in place regarding the wellbeing of cast and crew. All MAFS NZ contributors have access to mental health professionals throughout the process, including pre-screening, during production and after broadcast.”

MAFS NZ returned to Kiwi television this year for the first time since 2020.
