Raleigh police fire weapon in struggle with suspect. Police asking for help in search.
Police are still looking for a Hispanic man armed with a gun who struggled with an officer before fleeing a northeastern Raleigh neighborhood Sunday.
Police were responding to the 3900 block of Green Road around 11:16 a.m. Sunday when they found a man near that location matching the description of an armed person reported to 911, according to a Raleigh police news release.
A police officer attempted to stop the suspect, but the man fled after struggling with the officer, the release said. An officer discharged his weapon during the struggle, which caused property damage but no injuries.
Residents near the 2500 block of Green Castle Court were asked to stay indoors while a large number of Raleigh officers and investigators spent the afternoon conducting “an extensive search and canvas of the area.”
Raleigh police said the man is about 5 feet and 4 or 5 inches tall with a skinny build. Police did not provide a current description of what the man might be wearing.
As the investigation continues, police are encouraging “everyone in the area to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or persons,” the release said.
