Arrest made in string of brazen armed robberies

The Toronto police have arrested and charged a man in connection with a series of brazen armed robberies that targeted women as they walked to work.

Yama Mokhtarzada, 22, of Toronto faces 57 robbery and firearm-related offences stemming from street robberies that occurred in various downtown locations yesterday and on Friday, April 13.

Police say a total of 12 robberies were committed during which a man with a handgun demanded money from pedestrians. A total of seven robberies were reported downtown in the space of an hour during Friday’s rush hour.

Police are still seeking a second person in the robberies who they believe served as the driver. He is described as a Middle Eastern man, 20 to 25 years of age.
